OpenAI recently appointed Srinivas Narayanan as vice-president of Engineering. Narayanan previously served as the VP of Engineering at Meta ( previously known as Facebook).
“Over the past year, I got to know the amazing people at OpenAI and the incredible work that they are doing. I am super excited to join them,” he said in a LinkedIn post.
Narayanan spent more than 13 years in Meta where he was involved in extensive research in several domains, including computer vision, natural language processing, speech, and personalisation, to enhance the state-of-the-art in AI and drive the development of advanced Meta products.
Besides, he spearheaded several significant initiatives, such as devising the interest graph, introducing the location product, and overseeing engineering for photos. During his tenure, he also played a key role in initiating Meta’s ventures in computer vision and deep learning.
Prior to joining Meta, he co-founded Viralizr, a startup building consumer products with a focus on social collaboration. Narayanan also worked at IBM as a software engineer for around three years. Interestingly, Narayanan is not the first talent working in big tech to join OpenAI. Previously, we have seen Google AI researchers like Hyung Won Chung, Jason Wei, Shane Gu, others joining OpenAI.
